Students are interested in reading Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds. They are very interested in reading a story which takes place in modern times. A lot of the stories my students read are from at least 20 years ago so something modern would capture their interest. The story is about a boy seeking revenge after his brother is killed. Reading a modern story is just as important as reading a story that takes place 20+ years ago. These books will definitely help us learn about writing argumentative essays as well as connect us to modern concerns.
