These tablets will bring many opportunities to my classroom! I already have plans for the ways they will be used from collaborating to reading. One lesson I use these for is to show students the proper use of technology. Now that may not be in the curriculum but I think it is important. Not using it too much, too little, taking care of it, being creative with software programs and all while not forgetting the importance of interacting with one another. Our schools computers are nearly a decade old, regardless of opinion, 10 year old computers are far behind. My school consist of three computers in the classroom and two labs. The labs would be great if it were not for the many crippling factors. First and foremost the different kinds of testing from state to district constantly shut down the computer labs year round. Second as stated earlier the computers are outdated, slow, and in need of repair or replacement. In a school day time is precious. It takes time to line up, walk to the lab, sign in, troubleshoot problems, and basically whatever can go wrong does. Having the tablets allows me monitor them unlike the computers in the lab which the entire school uses. This leads to them lasting longer as well as takes away the mentioned factors. I already know many programs we will use. From basic searches of information to collaborating ideas the students will be able to work in a style that fits them and the modern world. This technology engages the child who needs extra, introduces it to those who are not exposed to it at home and gives them more freedom to learn, explore, share, create and stay excited for school.
