The state of Massachusetts has done research on realigning the curriculum standards for social studies. What they found was missing was an awareness of what it takes to be a good citizen. Students were unfamiliar with civics education. They needed information on state and local governments, how our federal government works, and in the words of John F Kennedy, the state wants students to ask what they can do for their country. Since it would be impossible to buy a textbook that can cover all of the different facets of the new curriculum standards, I think that it is time to embrace computers as the new textbooks. With iPads in the classroom, students can research any topics, whether its ancient or modern history, forms of government, current events, and geography. My school only has five Chromebook carts so classrooms must share these resources and I will not be able to count on computers to address the curriculum.
