It’s no secret that children need to move. When children cannot move they become distracted or worse. Flexible seating allows children to bounce, wiggle, twist, fidget, roll and kneel to suit their needs. Students learn best when they have some control over their environment. Flexible seating allows children to choose where they work and with whom. Traditional desk can make students territorial or possessive over space and supplies. Many flexible seating options stimulate students sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students ADHD, ADD and ASD. Flexible seating will also allow more student control and less teacher control. The benefits of flexible seating far outweigh any negatives. The items that my class need are alertseats, stools, relax and read bean bag chairs and inflatable physio roll balls.
