Scholastic Scope magazine is the must-have supplementary material for the eighth grade English classroom, packing thrilling, complex texts with rigorous support materials. These magazines will help fill the void in my curriculum by providing engaging multi-genre content, rich skill activities and thrilling videos. With every issue of Scope, students will get a series of skill-based activities that will help them bulk up the skills they need to become strong, analytical readers. Skills covered are central ideas and details, inference, text evidence, mood, tone, text features, and text evidence. The videos are a great way to engage students, build visual literacy, and set a purpose for reading. The audio articles can unlock a challenging text for struggling readers as well as build listening-comprehension skills for all learners.
