I am teaching students of various races, abilities, and exposure. They are expected to analyze documents such as primary sources and maps. Afterwards, they are to draw conclusions about what they've analyzed and write a critical essay. This can be a bit challenging students don't receive adequate practice. The atlases will serve as a supplement and DBQ project will guide us through a step by step process of critical writing. These atlases allow students to read infographics, vivid photos, and current information. These will capture their attention and support the current curriculum expectations. Also, a social studies test is projected to have an impact on the 8th grade year. These students can't wait till 8th grade to master these skills. I feel that it is my duty in the 6th grade to assist my 8th grade colleagues. It is my opinion that my ability to supplement my curriculum with excellent materials will produce confident knowledgeable historians and geographers.
