I am a Kindergarten teacher in an urban, K-5 public school that has the majority of its students coming from low-income families. 99% of students qualify for free to reduced lunch and 90% of students live in public housing or the homeless shelter that surrounds the school. Many of my student's families cannot afford to supply their children with what they need to learn. Most of the students also speak English as their second language. Despite the challenges they face, my students are always eager to get to school every day and learn something new! They are extremely hard workers and do their best every day. Our classroom is a warm and nurturing learning environment for the exploration of their social, emotional, and academic development!
