Even though fifth graders are in their last year of elementary school, they still like to come sit on the rug. The trouble is when you teach 30 fifth graders at one time, they don't always all fit on the rug. This sometimes makes it difficult for us to gather as a class. An important part of building a classroom learning community is having a functional meeting space where everyone can gather together. This large area rug and a couple bean bag chairs will make it possible to fit everyone and make the space inviting. I also intend to leverage the spots in the bean bag chairs for positive behavior reinforcement.
