In my third grade classroom, much of literacy instruction is geared toward individualized learning. I use differentiated instruction and small group learning as much as possible. My students love to have a choice to sit around the room when they are learning, especially when they are reading or writing. I am hoping to implement flexible seating in my classroom to give students an opportunity to pick a comfortable seat where they learn best. I give my students a choice to pick their seats and they are often sitting on the hard floor, leaning on their desks, or several will be squeezing onto the one rug we have in our room. Since my students are always full of energy and ready to learn, they often struggle with being in the same spot all day - their desks. Flexible seating will give them a chance to not only pick a seat where they learn best but it will also give them a chance to move around the room and get a little energy out. My students would appreciate a comfortable place to sit or lay while they are reading and writing. Flexible seating would really add excitement to our classroom!
