By adding a number of easy-to-play, tactile percussion instruments, we will be able to introduce the first ever "unified" percussion ensemble at my high school. Sports have been very successful in pairing typical learners with non-typical learners. All students involved grow and learn together with an emphasis on peer-to-peer mentoring. I believe every student should have the opportunity to perform on a musical instrument, regardless of whatever disability they may have. By using the "unified" format, we can engage ALL students that wish to be a part of music at our school. I chose the medium of percussion because the instruments can be easy to pick up for individuals with limited coordination or musical backgrounds. This group will perform at basketball games as well as musical events.
