Students in my Foods & Nutrition classes can bring a whole new level of freshness to the dishes we prepare in the culinary lab with the addition of tower gardens in our classroom. Utilizing fresh herbs, spices and vegetables year-round will give students the opportunity to experience and taste FRESH food. A tower garden will provide students the skills to grow their own food and hopefully encourage them to want to do the same at home! What better way to learn healthy eating habits than to reap the benefits of their indoor gardening labor! I can just envision now how much the students will enjoy adding their home grown cilantro to fresh guacamole or using fresh tomatoes to make homemade spaghetti sauce in the middle of January in cold and snowy Pennsylvania!
