A large majority of my students struggle with English in general because it is not their primary/first language. Currently, I have to give them an online version of Beowulf and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night because our school does not have class-sets of these books and is unable to fund the purchase of them. Online versions are great... but not-so-great when students who have no internet at home try and access them to read. With the large majority of my students coming from low-income families, internet is an issue that is widespread among our school. We need hard copies of these books so students are not forced to stay late after school reading so they have internet access or going to the local McDonalds just to work on their homework. We can only get through so much in class, and with PDF versions unavailable for download, we need hard copies so students are able to take the books home to read.
