The students on my 7th grade team participate in independent reading time during their Reading and Language Arts classes. During this time, students can practice the strategies they are learning in class. It also provides students the opportunity to choose a book that interests them and that they can easily relate to. It is a way to differentiate for readers at different levels. Throughout my years as an educator, I have had the pleasure of watching students’ eyes light up when they see a new book on the shelf. Unfortunately, we do not always have the ability to purchase the books we need. My partner teacher Miss L and I, would love to be able to provide the students on our team with new reading material. We would appreciate it and we know our students will too!
