"I haven't read a book since third (or fourth or fifth) grade," is a far too common statement made by my high school students these days. When they talk about the books they used to read and once loved, their lost joy for reading glimmers briefly in their eyes. I would like to help students rekindle their love for reading and fall happily back into the pages of literature with the enthusiasm they once did. Students deserve to read texts that speak to their experiences, their issues, their questions about the world around them, and I want my classroom to be a resource that satisfies their thirst for knowledge.
