As an adult, do you find that you have a preferred spot to work, study, or even pay bills? Try working or trying to focus for more than 6 hours a day! Kids are constantly moving and fidgeting. We know that. We try to get them to stop and focus. Why? Why not let them learn in an environment that is comfortable for them. My students are diverse learners with diverse needs. In order to meet those needs, I am trying to foster a sense of independence while also incorporating more collaborative learning. I would like to incorporate flexible seating in my classroom so that my students can find a spot where they feel they can succeed and work together. I would love a standing table (hence the bed risers), a table of balance balls for students to be able to move a little, a floor table, and a table of wobble chairs. I am also asking for a few lap desks for students to work around the room and 2 lounge chairs to get cozy in for independent reading. The idea is simple. Flexible seating and more choices means more successful learning!
