As it is nearing the end of the year, I want to offer my students this project which is inspired by David Hockney theories and mimicking the masters. Throughout the years the "Selfie" or self portrait rather has been a vital and important subject to art history. In the modern age students take numerous selfies everyday but they have never been asked to MAKE a "Selfie." The art of self portraiture is an important step during any artists creative journey. With this project I want to teach the kids to embrace themselves and never apologize for a selfie which really shows who they are and how they want the world to see them. They will choose a selfie which is on their cellphone or digital device choosing ones that were created using filters or apps is encouraged. These photos show them in their most vulnerable and real moments in turn they will use the selfies they have taken and MAKE there selfies come to life. As it is nearing the end of the year and serving so many students in the visual arts classes our supplies have been extremely diminished. Without the generosity of the donors of donors choose this project will not come to fruition. I want to thank you in advance for your generosity and consideration to help me bring this project to life. We need art materials and supplies - including canvas panels, brushes, acrylic paint and washable paint - that will aid them on their creative journeys. These materials will offer students access to equal materials and plentiful colors. Aiding them as vital tools which will allow them to produce their best work. For many of these students who will be graduating in May this will be their last project completed in high school and will help them to get into art school as a strong piece in their portfolios.
