A diverse population of students should have a diverse collection of books to read that reflect them and their lives. This project is requesting specific books about African-American notable historical figures as well as several fiction books. These books will be added to the school's collection, into a separate section to highlight that they are by, for and/or about people of color. My students are predominantly not white, but my library is still filled with books by white authors, about white kids with illustrations that only include white people. My students are mostly NOT white, I want to add color to my media center, to represent my students and show them that all races are represented.
