I would like to have a classroom full of different types of seats for my students to try and see which gives them the most ability to focus and feel like themselves as they work. I borrowed many items last year from a fellow teacher and I was amazed at how quickly it proved to be a wonderful way to further encourage my students to be themselves and really reach for higher learning. To offer alternative seating to a child is to teach them, from day one, that who they are as an individual matters greatly to you as a teacher. I saw for myself first hand the confidence it gives them to feel that they are unique and to revel in that uniqueness. They really pushed hard towards their goals and so many of them, many more than I've had in previous years, met and/or exceeded their goals in a speedy manner. With this project I hope to make a start at having a classroom fully designed to encourage unique individuals from day one.
