How can one IGNITE students to read for not just assignment but enjoyment? Give them something to read that they love and are interested in. Sometimes that is easier said than done. I could order the book when they tell me what they want but then we wait for it to come. That wait ruins a crucial moment when interest is peaked! Having tablets available will allow me to download books right when their interest is HOT! These tablets will allow me to achieve so many goals that research has proven to be vital for students to gain the necessary stamina for reading success. Even the readers who struggle the most have amazing intrinsic motivation! I want to support them in their moment when they shine and support that SPARK as soon as it is lit! Tablets will allow me to get many books in their hands quickly and effectively. They will supplement my personal library that I already share with them. Teaching students in a high poverty and rural area is a challenge. Our challenge is increased by lack of reliable internet. If I can download a book and provide them appropriate learning games, I am providing something they may never have in their household. I can teach them the educational value of technology so that they get ready to step into their middle school years!
