The big push in education is technology. All of our state testing is on the computer. Some of my students are amazing writers, but because they don't have the appropriate amount of exposure to computers, their typing skills and technology navigation skills are severely lacking. The state cannot see how intelligent and driven my students are because they have 90 minutes to compose a multi-paragraph essay but it is done entirely on the computer. I am seeking help in obtaining 10 chromebooks so that my students can have the exposure and practice that they desperately need. Using adaptive technology works like a private tutor for each and every student. These technologies are often free and available to students already - if they have the computers. When students engage in adaptive technology, the technology changes based on their own specific needs. It allows students to learn at their own level and at their own pace within a traditional classroom setting. By donating 10 chromebooks to my classroom, you are giving each of my students more than double the current amount of technology access that they are currently capable of receiving. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home due to the low socioeconomic status of the families in our district. It is my job to prepare these students for their future education, careers, and to be productive members of society. In this day and age, this also means being well versed in basic computer and Internet functions. The only way to "teach" that is to give the students the time, guidance, and exposure to technology as often as possible.
