We will use all the materials funded to create lessons students can work on cooperatively together. Students will have to accomplish tasks and solve puzzles using clues to break into their box. These materials will be utilized for library lessons but will also be used in classrooms. The boxes will be set up around a theme with the object for students to work together to break into the locked box. The library and the teachers at my school will have access to these materials for lessons to break students out of their ordinary routines. Lessons will take approximately 20-60 minutes, depending on the theme and lesson. An example of this would be a library orientation. Our school mascot has gotten locked into the box and students must work together to accomplish tasks and solve clues to rescue our mascot. The team who can accomplish this in the fastest time will receive an award. Tasks will include getting oriented to the library, using different areas of the library, finding books, and working together. By using the materials for a library orientation, the thousand students who attend school will get to experience breaking out of the ordinary. By using a breakout model instead of traditional lecturing, students get to use their own skills and continue practice working in groups. This can motivate students and make learning about a topic or new concept fun. We can always add a little more fun to academics.
