These will be my classroom’s first iPads. Teachers and students love the variety of apps for Math and creative art expression that students may use for independent work and collaborative work. Apps, of course, have adaptive features so it’s easy for a student to be working at his or her own level. At a teacher workshop at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I got to have experience the with the app Sketch. They use the iPad camera to take photographs to illustrate their story with the iPad—either photographs or photos of their own drawings. After reviewing and editing their story, students use the microphone to make their story a talking book. This app is very kid-friendly, and my students will be able to produce amazing work without needing close supervision or help. My very favorite thing about Sketch is that it helps ALL students produce an amazing final product. English Learners and emerging writers have the time and support of this program to produce a finished e-story that can be read to the class. When they do, is their very best work! iPads have many amazing uses in the classroom. I’m looking forward to using the app and for many other uses in Math! We are also moving towards a more comfortable classroom that allows students to move about the classroom and experience what makes them work the best. I love the idea of having comfortable flexible seating options for my kids.
