The goal of ProjectLit is to help all kinds of students connect to each other by reading and discussing a book that may be outside their normal genre. The books are chosen from a wide-ranging list from the ProjectLit Founders, but each book club chooses their own titles to read together. Each book is about a life outside the experience of most of our students, so not only are they viewing life from a new perspective, but as they read and discuss with each other, they will be able to learn more together. Our book club meetings will be during each of our three lunches - 10 books per lunch for students to add to their personal collection. Our librarian will lead the discussions each lunch. This project will fund our first two books. Front Desk by Kelly Yang is about a young immigrant who balances school work with helping her parents at their family-run motel. The Epic Fail by Arturo Zamora by Pablo Cartaya is about a young man trying to save his family's restaurant. Our hope is to read a total of 8 books this year.
