The materials that we are requesting to be funded will be utilized to put together natural disaster home safety kits. Each kit will include a DBX Cruiser 2 Person River Tube, Carlisle Economy Canoe Paddles, a Field & Stream Adult Universal Life Vest, and a geckobrands Backpack Cooler to store drinks and food. These kits can be created for households to survive in the case a severe storm or flooding takes place. The students will then present the kits to the city of Port Arthur city council and propose that each home be equipped with these kits on a mandatory basis, greatly improving the chances of survival during natural disaster. This lesson connects design with science and civics as we learn about weather systems and their impact on our community. The students will take charge of this project as effective advocates of their community!
