We start our art class by having a short discussion to introduce the main ideas and concepts of the day. Currently, we meet and sit on a small rug that doesn't fit everyone comfortably. In the discussions that we have, I want students to be able to fully articulate the art concepts that we are learning and how they can apply those concepts when they create their own work. A new, bigger and colorful rug will facilitate meaningful conversations by fitting everyone comfortably, it will help us to build community by making everyone feel welcome to a kind and uplifting art classroom.
