I have been teaching elementary school for the past 17 years, and this year I have slowly introduced aspects of flexible seating this school year. I have done extensive research on the benefits of flexible seating, and I have seen first hand, students' excitement and productivity increase when given the opportunity to move around the room and work in a individualized space that suits them. All students have different needs in their academic environment and flexible seating helps all students feel more comfortable in the classroom. I have seen the classroom community thrive and the class come closer together when they have the opportunity to "choose" their own seating and comfort. It allows for students to feel like they have a choice and a say in their learning therefore leading towards greater "buy-in" to the classroom and curriculum. I have been amazed at the benefits I have seen with just the small amount of flexible seating I have and would love to give my classroom more options. I have chosen quite a few fun options for the kids to use for flexible seating. I have cushion pads for kids to be able to sit on the floor and be comfortable while completing work/reading. The lap desks are super awesome for kids to have a portable writing station. They can find a spot in the room that works for them. The Big Joe bean bags are extremely comfortable and kids always enjoy cozying up with a book or work on those. The stability balls give the kids the ability to bounce and expend energy while completing work! The fidget bands are great for kids who have a hard time sitting still and keeps them focused.
