My philosophy for education is seeing the "whole child." I understand that many need life skills as well as academic support. One part of my obligation to these at-risk seniors involves making sure they are "academically" prepared for life after graduation. I know that a bigger component is dealing with life: why did they end up credit deficient? What lions are they facing outside of my room? What key life skills are they missing that will better ensure success? I plan to incorporate a character education curriculum, using journals, lists, and note taking as the primary vehicle. The students will be exposed to conflict resolution, perseverance and motivation, relationships, communication and advocacy. These colorful journals will aid and inspire as we tackle the tough stuff in life.
