My classroom is a democratic community structured on strong rapport and reciprocal relationships with students. I have spent the past four years creating a sense of trust as well as cultivating a sense of authentic caring to students that stem from the embittering effects of mass incarceration, hyper-segregation, and poverty in Milwaukee. Despite the difficult realities many of my students share, they faithfully return every single day, eager and ready to learn. Although students are eager and ready to learn, they often do not have the supplies as well as resources to be successful including pens, pencils, paper, binders, and notebooks. Donating to my project will reignite the level of rigor in my classroom.
