I continually strive to connect all readers with just the right book that will hook them and send them on their way to becoming a life-long reader (and learner). Unfortunately, many of my students read below grade level and lack self-confidence and lack access to current and interesting books. We live in a rural, high-poverty area and my students don't have a lot of experience with many cultures, or things going on around the world. These novels will help expand their knowledge, learn about new cultures through multicultural characters, and allow them an escape from the hardships they face daily in their homes. This project will help me build a classroom library that students will want to visit and revisit as they continue their journey through middle school and into high school.
