In our classroom, every minute counts! It is important to start the day off by engaging students' minds. I want my students to start each morning off by completing morning bins. These morning bins are an engaging and exciting way to begin each school day! To help engage students and excite them about science, technology, and math, I am looking to include high interest and high quality items in our morning bin boxes. These items will not only provide my first graders will an opportunity to create, imagine, explore, and work on fine motor skills, but will also provide the opportunity to work collaboratively with other boys and girls in our classroom. I am a firm believer in how play promotes and fosters learning and development in young children. There is also a large amount of research that supports play-based learning in young children. Play is not only fun, but supports a child's educational and social development. Our classroom morning bins will not only allow students to freely interact and play with peers, but also develop creativity, exploration, and life long learners. Resources, such as the Tinkertoys, Brain Flakes, and the Interlox Discs, will give students the opportunity to engineer things from their imagination, build fine motor skills, and work together with other peers. The Bristle Building Blocks and the Bunchems will provide students with sensory stimulation while also providing connections to math, science, and engineering. In addition to items that will engage boys and girls in math, science, and engineering, the Alphabet letters will foster exploration and discovery in reading, phonics, and writing. All of the various items that will fill our morning bins will engage the creativity of the boys and girls in our classroom, and will foster peer relationships.
