Our high school is housed in a large, historic building meant to serve 2,000 students and staff. As seen in many urban schools, low enrollment only allows for us to use a small portion of the building. Many rooms go unused and unloved. Unfortunately, this situation mirrors the overall neighborhood, where many buildings are vacated or abandoned. There are few places for students and staff to safely congregate and take a break from the realities of our day. Our school community wants to create a space for community building and rejuvenation. Specifically, our Senior Class plans to turn a large room on the second floor into a community space. There will be places to eat, work, and converse. This will require new paint job and new furniture. Our students and staff are pride ourselves on overachieving despite not being given bare necessities. Our students are committed to giving the school a space deserving of everyone's hard work and dedication. At this point in our room renovation, our students have completed the initial cleaning and paint job. We are now ready to purchase items. Specifically, we are asking for the following items: one rug, two chairs, one ice maker and ice scoop, one Amazon Echo, one storage cart, one floor lamp, one Amazon FireStick. These items will be used to create a unique and comfortable space for all school community members to engage in rejuvenating and cooperative interactions.
