At our school, we teach our scholars that college is for everyone. Further, we believe that college starts in kindergarten! We approach academics with rigor to show our scholars that a college education is not out of reach. Literacy is the first step towards achievement of this goal. At the beginning of each year, we host Family Night for families of students in kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade. Family Night is one of our first opportunities to work with families to reinforce what we share with our scholars at school. This is critical to acquisition and development of skills, particularly reading, which is learned by practice. At Family Night, we give every scholar a book at the appropriate reading level to take home; students can continue practicing word recognition and reading, building on classroom skills, so their reading can get stronger every day! Families can feel involved in their scholars' academic progress, while spending quality time sharing a story that engages scholars and sparks their imagination. Together, schools and families can create a learning environment that prepares strong readers. Our scholars work hard, showing grit, excellence, courage, and unity everyday! We are so proud to provide as many resources as we can for our scholars, at no expense to families. Your support will provide high-quality learning materials to students who may not have access to the right tools for success outside of school. One book can change a child’s whole world and we cannot do this without you!
