These heart rate monitors will help motivate students to be lifelong athletes. My students are of all ability levels. These monitors will continue to push them to make their heart the strongest it can be. Students who don't believe they are athletes will be able to see the data collected by the monitor and they will realize their potential. Fitness skills are lifelong skills. These heart rate monitors will increase participation, excitement, and the joy of sweating. The best way to ensure success is to show students how capable they are. Students don't have to play sports to be considered an athlete. Fitness skills can be utilized by anyone at anytime to stay healthy. Using heart rate monitors to track data will allow me to show students their success through heart rate data versus comparing students' specific skills. We can track data based on different exercises and see which exercises increase our heart rate and which ones decrease it. There will be evidence behind why we do what we do in PE class; to build a foundation of lifelong wellness.
