My project will give students the ability to track daily progress through the writing process. By writing in one color pen on Monday, and another color on Tuesday, writers can see progress and easily share thoughts with peers and adults. For the math students, the shelves will give them efficient access to challenging math tasks that require multiple papers, manipulatives, and writing materials. Mathematicians can collaborate on tasks by getting their tray quickly during the busy school day. Writers can use different color pens to communicate steps to solving higher-level tasks. Each mathematician can easily see and discuss the contributions of others when everyone writes in a different color pen. Research supports writing in pen as a strategy for active engagement in all subject areas for elementary students.
