AVID is a system that is built into the learning environment to provide support for first generation college-seeking students. I am currently an AVID elective teacher, and I work with 60 students throughout their high school experience to help them prepare for success in their academics (both in high school and college), and in life beyond the classroom. I have had the pleasure of following these students into their senior year of high school, and watching them transform into mature, responsible, good citizens, while engaging in the most rigorous course work available, over the course of four years. Many of these students are among the top 10% of their class, and are involved in numerous extracurricular activities and community service initiatives. Their passion illuminates our school, and their drive encourages those around them.
