Our classroom is hoping to improve our flexible seating options to better allow partnered students to read to each other or to discuss books. The Vari Seat will allow two students to sit together and buddy read during Language Arts, or to collaborate on a project. This "mini-sofa" is perfect for two students, and portable enough to move when needed. It will also fold away when the entire class joins me on the carpet. The folding chairs will also allow a small group to gather in different areas of the room to discuss projects, reading groups, or instructional concepts. Working in small groups helps to build the necessary communication skills students need for future success. Flexible seating helps create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in the classroom which promotes engagement and encourages students to collaborate. By providing flexible seating in the classroom, the students suddenly have various places to complete tasks. When a classroom allows for some student choice, then the learning become more student-centered. Our class is very excited about improving our seating options for paired and group work.
