Children aged five to 16 spend an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen. In a world full of screens, children are as captivated as we are by them. But we can make a shift and we can help students do it.
Our classroom is participating in Screen-Free Week from April 30 to May 6, 2018. The items were purposefully chosen to provide playful engagement at home when the screen is not a choice.
The dice and cards will be accompanied by ideas for games, including solitaire. The felt and yarn will be made into little ice cream cones and "scoops" of ice cream, for imaginative play. The jump ropes will join the tennis balls already donated to provide physical play.
