With the implementation of the relaxation station, my students will be provided with a safe, calm, and interactive environment. Students who are feeling anxious, overstimulated and overwhelmed will come to the station for a defined amount of time to decompress and speak with a counselor. Students will have a wide variety of interactive tools to aid them with their decompression. With a wide variety of choices, I am able to offer something for each individual child they are interested in to help them gain control of their thoughts and feelings. Common choices among my students are slime, clay, sand, manipulative toys, music, and coloring pages. Students who are calm, and have a clear head, are able to absorb information easier than a student who is angry and upset. Every student who utilizes my relaxation station will have one on one time with me to talk about what they are dealing with and construct a game plan for moving forward with their day. With the ability to do this students are calmer and happier throughout the day which, in turn, decreases behavior incidents and teacher referrals. I was able to implement this strategy with a few of my students last year who had been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I bought the supplies and arranged a corner of my office for the relaxation station. These students were so appreciative of this area! They loved knowing they had a place to release fears and frustrations in a calm and relaxing way. I would love to provide more students with this opportunity. Your generous donation could provide me the ability to help many more students!
