The materials requested are specifically chosen to help organize the classroom, display student work and create materials, and encourage growth through play and exploration. The bookshelves will be used to store materials and decrease overwhelming visual clutter. The laminator will be used to help preserve and display student work as well as preserve materials for student use such as flash cards and communication boards. The other requests in my project are specifically for learning and independent developmental growth. I ask for peg boards and bins so I can create independent work tasks for students to play with during the day. This encourages students to work independently with materials through engaging exploration and functional work tasks. I requested the sorting bears and counting chips as a colorful and engaging manipulative for students to work on fine motor grasping skills while sorting and matching. The musical instruments will help encourage exploration of toys that have purpose and meaning while engaging their senses of sound and touch. The oral sensory items or meant for students who require oral stimulation to help engage while learning and enable them to focus more to the task at hand. The elastic string will help attach items to the peg boards so students who like to throw items will not lose the item and will invite them to pull the toy back to throw again or investigate further, thus encouraging development in exploration of functional play. The floor lamps are for visual stimulation and will be used with an access switch device to encourage students who wish to see the lamp turned on to touch the switch to turn the light on, and finally the light up noise makers will be used to encourage students to touch in order to let staff know "I have something to say."
