My students are ALL participating in the 40 Book Challenge! This idea was brought to my attention after reading Donalyn Miller's The Book Whisperer, which discusses the need to abandon reading logs and whole class instruction on a single novel. To become readers, kids need to behave like real readers. Kids will only grow to love reading by choosing their own awesome books to read! No more reading logs and whole class reading the same boring book. Kids need choice so they can read volumes of books to turn them all into readers! These books are some of the most popular titles in today's youth fiction and my students would love to have access to these books.
