The materials for this project can be implemented throughout the school year with my students. One of the many ways I will use these materials is through a project that I created last year with my students called the Variable Vessel Volume Project and this year I want to take it to the next level of application through 3D printing. Students have to use a free online program called Tinkercad to design as if they are architects or engineers to create a new-age liquid container or water bottle using three three-dimensional shapes. The total volume must equal 350 mL which creates the challenge for students to create a container that fits this criteria and additional criteria for this project. According to the Common Core Math State Standards, students need to know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems in order to fully learn the material long-term. The Variable Vessel Volume project will provide this for my students using the LulzBot Mini 3D printer. The LulzBot Mini 3D printer will help inspire future engineers, architects, and designers to take their education to the next level and make the necessary connections between math and real-world.
