This project is requesting flexible seating for a crowded classroom of 32 students. The project will supply couches, bean bags and a organizer cabinet. At this time, we have enough space for 32 individual student desks, a teacher desk and a very small library. Since we are an old school (40+ years old) and we are in an old portable classroom, we have even less space than in a traditional sized classroom. My goal is to offer my students multiple and flexible areas of seating to have an impact on their learning. As of now, I see how excited the students are to simply sit on the limited ground space, with me, for literature groups. Research has shown that students who are comfortable and have options for their learning space report having less stress and anxiety and are able to learn and grow in a comfortable environment. When we think about ourselves, as adults, we like to decorate our workspace, have flexible seating and meeting options, so why not offer those choices to elementary students? Currently, I have 4 emoji pillows the students can earn to have at their desk and I have seen them put their best effort forward, just to have the chance to have a pillow at their desk instead of sitting on their hard plastic chairs. My hope is that you'll consider donating to help change the entire learning environment for my students!!! While flexible seating is awesome and so worthwhile, the storage of the students' supplies is equally important to ensure they have personal space and to ensure effective classroom management and time management.
