To help students understand the abstract concepts of thermal energy and molecule movement, they will be working in groups to create an insulating lunchbox of their own design. The EL-KIT-03 starter kit will be used to create a temperature sensor that lights up in green, yellow, or red depending on the temperature change. This kit is compatible with Audrino platform in which they will be using to code the sensor. This project is really open ended in that students who are coding beginners can modify written code while those more advanced students can create their own codes. Finally, students will learn how to create a working circuit. These advanced products will help give my students the ability to use authentic materials. Furthermore, this kit will be used as part of makerspace in the classroom for the students to continue to explore in a Genius Hour project. The students will have a choice in using some of the other components like the digital timer in a project of their choosing. It will also be an opportunity to collect authentic data. These kits will be a truly exciting and new learning opportunity for both the students and teachers!
