The requested materials will be used to create communication boards that will serve as a voice for my nonverbal and pre-verbal learners. The students will use picture symbols which represent nouns, verbs, prepositions, pronouns, and adjectives that combine to make statements. Beginners will make simple phrases such as, "Want cookie," "Want more please," or "Go play." Advanced learners will express thoughts and ideas such as, "I am sad my truck broke." or "I lost the game and do not want to play again." Students can combine picture symbols in a variety of combinations to meet their communication needs. Students will use communication boards to engage with new vocabulary in books read aloud and through structured play. Vocabulary concepts will be centered around a theme or concept, for example, prepositions, foods, animals, emotions, or actions. Students will learn to navigate a variety of vocabulary and concepts quickly through repeated demonstration and modeling.
