In the cardiovascular unit, students will learn about how the heart pumps the blood around the body. Further, they will make connections between health and disease, ultimately understanding the impact of high blood pressure on the body and risk factors leading to hypertension. I want my students to have the opportunity to use real manual blood pressure cuffs to learn how to measure each other's blood pressure. This will engage them in learning about they physiology of blood pressure (arterial systolic and diastolic pressure), as well as help them envision themselves as a health professional! My students will be thrilled to use high quality blood pressure cuffs on each other and to listen to the real heart beats of their peers.
