The youngsters will use the iPad to research a country that their SPHERO ball will be travel through. Each student group will choose a continent and country and then map a course on plain newsprint paper. The preteens will use coding to program their SPHERO ball to navigate around a map on the gym floor. The young geographers will research online and then create travel brochures for the student body to read prior to watching the SPHERO balls travel around the world. My students will grow in their understanding of themselves, their world, and their place on this planet. Geography provides both a way of thinking and a tool for exploring real-world problems and solutions. Students will be both challenged and inspired by a multidisciplinary project-based learning experience using these materials and supplies. This real-life robotics project will connect three important areas of learning. While expanding their knowledge in Geography they will be using writing resources from their Language Arts class and programming robotic spheres.
