Getting a 2:1 student to manipulative ratio would immensely help my low-income students fully understand how to calculate surface area. Right now, there is only one set that I use the entire day. Students have a hard time grasping such an abstract idea, let alone not being able to touch it with their own hands! They will get a hands-on experience with the Geometric shapes and nets. These shapes have nets inside of them that my students will be able to open up and close themselves. Getting such an essential experience is necessary for all of my students to learn lateral and total surface area.
