In order to utilize our standards-based adaptive technology programs effectively, my students need quality headphones clearly to hear the audio portion of the program. The high quality headphones will also muffle out the voices of their peers working collaboratively at centers in the classroom. The few headphones we currently have do not work properly. Some headphones only have one working side, others make a crackling sound when the audio is played. Our broken headphones have a negative impact on student engagement and learning. At times I also question the validity of the data due to the inability to clearly hear the audio instruction. Unfortunately, our school does not have the funds to purchase high-quality headphones and it is too much to ask our families to purchase them. Having reliable headphones will allow optimal engagement and learning to take place everyday. It will also provide me with accurate valuable data to ensure my instruction meets every student's individual needs. But most of all, the headphones will bring less frustration and more smiles to the children's faces.
