Main Goal: Calm Down Corner is a safe place a scholar can go independently when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control. Who will benefit 6th Graders will have access to participate independently in self-regulate/de-escalate, problem-solving, implement calm-down strategies, and reflect on actions and behaviors. What will the scholars benefit: A calm down corner, mindfulness corner, peace corner, safe zone, or reset center is a designated space in or out of the classroom where students can go when they need to regulate their emotions. Calm down corner is a place where scholars can implement taught social and emotional learning skills. When will the scholar have access to participate in the Calm-Down Center: Scholars will have access to the Calm-Down Center anytime of the day with supervision. BST Team provides Push-in and Pull-out Support. Pull-out support will be a time where a BST Member will support each scholar with self-regulating their emotions, feelings, and behaviors. Pull-out can be requested by a scholar on the BST Team or initiated by a teacher when he/she notices a scholar's behavior is escalating. Where will the Calm-Down Center be located: Ideal location for calm-down center will be in front of Dr. Melton and Ms. Hawkins office. Why create a Calm-Down center for 6th graders: Creating a calm-down center in the 6th grade hallway will avoid a long transition walk to BST classroom. A long transition can cause behaviors to escalate and can cause hallway disruptions in transit. How does it work: Step 1: Set Timer Step 2: Follow De-escalation Process; (State emotion, state problem, pick a solution to the problem) Step 3: Choose calm-down strategy Step 4: Return back to class Next Steps:
