You can help my students continue their work learning by helping us buy a new paper shredder (before our old one burns out!). Using a paper shredder helps students to learn how to stay on task and it also improves their fine motor skills. Our present paper shredder--which is is used, cheap and undurable-- overheats 2-3 times a day. It takes 40 minutes to cool down, which is frustrating to students and wastes work time. The shredded paper is sold to the Humane Society and the profits are used by our classroom to set up a mock up "store," where students learn to shop, handle money, and handle social situations. Anther benefit of shredding is it helps our school reduce waste. The paper is provided by the recycling bins in our classrooms. The shredder will be used by other classrooms as well for the same purpose.
